For the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE):
We have supported the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) in building their foresight capacity. Together with the organisation and key stakeholders, we realised several foresight elements, including participatory workshops, exploring the future of gender equality in the EU. We applied a range of foresight tools, with a particular focus on megatrends, vision development, and identifying actions relevant to the organisation and its stakeholders.
One outcome of EIGE’s work in that area is the identification of five major gender equality issues over the next 15 years in the EU: Digitalisation, Green transition, Future of Work, Diversifying Inequalities, Shifting Values. For more information on EIGE’s strategic foresight work, see here.
Building on these insights, we contributed several foresight elements to the Gender Equality Forum 2024 in Brussels, including three workshops and an accompanying toolkit:
Foresight Youth Visioning Workshops
We designed and facilitated two Foresight Youth Visioning Workshops tailored specifically to a younger audience – the youth participants of the 2024 Forum. In collaboration with them, we co-created positive and desirable visions for the future of gender equality in the EU beyond 2030. These visions took into account intersectional and queer perspectives, identifying key vision elements, milestones, actions, and potential obstacles, along with concrete recommendations for EIGE and other stakeholders within the EU.
Foresight Toolkit and Foresight Masterclass
We developed the toolkit “Future Issues and Trends for Gender Equality: Foresight Toolkit by EIGE on Futures of Gender Equality – A How-to Guide”, which was officially launched at the Forum. The toolkit includes a set of trend cards and future issues, poster templates, and a sample agenda. It is designed to support researchers, activists, policymakers, and others working to advance gender equality by offering practical tools and methods for integrating foresight approaches into a wide range of gender equality initiatives and contexts. The toolkit empowers users to independently design and conduct foresight workshops, using trend- and future issue-based methods. It is highly adaptable and can be tailored to specific needs. To accompany the toolkit, we designed and facilitated a Foresight Masterclass at the Gender Equality Forum. The Masterclass introduced participants to the toolkit and provided hands-on insights into trend-based foresight for gender equality, guiding them through selected tools and methods featured in the toolkit.
